Bigbank’s results for Q2 2026: Core indicators continue to grow steadily, first-half profit reaches 17.5 million euros

As Bigbank continues to systematically expand its role as a universal bank in the Baltic region, the Group’s deposit portfolio grew to 3.2 billion euros and the loan portfolio to 3.0 billion euros by the end of the second quarter. Net profit for the first half of the year amounted to 17.5 million euros, which was 1.2 million euros lower year on year.

At the same time, the Bank’s net profit for the second quarter totalled 10.0 million euros, up 12% compared to the same period last year, allowing Martin Länts, Chairman of the Management Board of Bigbank, to describe the second quarter of 2026 as another successful quarter for the Group. “Both loan and deposit portfolios grew in line with expectations, while the quality of the loan portfolio remained stable. Compared to the same period last year, the Bank’s net interest income also increased,” said Länts.

In addition to delivering strong financial results, the Bank remains focused on the development of everyday banking services and the expansion of its product offering. “During the second quarter, we introduced debit cards and virtual debit cards for retail customers in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and expanded our current account service for business customers to Latvia and Lithuania,” Länts noted.

According to Länts, customer acquisition and the opening of new current accounts continue at a strong pace. During the second quarter, the number of customers holding a bank account with Bigbank increased by nearly 50%, while the total number of customers with a Bigbank current account has more than doubled since the beginning of the year. “The service continues to be the most attractive current account offering in the Baltics for both retail and business customers. Bigbank offers 2% interest on unlimited account balances, free payments and no fees of any kind related to the current account,” he highlighted as the key competitive advantage of the Bigbank account.

As an important achievement from the customer experience perspective, Bigbank became the first bank in the Baltics to introduce the Smart-ID+ authentication solution at the beginning of June, providing customers with an even more secure way to access internet banking and other banking services. In addition, the mobile application was made available to business customers across the Baltics, further improving the convenience of everyday banking for companies.

Based on the financial results published today, Bigbank’s loan portfolio reached a record level of nearly 3.0 billion euros by the end of the second quarter, increasing by 164 million euros (+6%) over the quarter and by 559 million euros (+23%) year on year. Compared to the end of the previous quarter, the business loan portfolio grew by 113 million euros (+10%) to 1.2 billion euros, the home loan portfolio by 42 million euros (+5%) to 886 million euros and the consumer loan portfolio by 4 million euros (+0.4%) to 860 million euros.

The quality of the loan portfolio remained stable in the second quarter, with no signs of weakening payment behaviour. Net expected credit loss allowances increased by 0.4 million euros compared to the same period in 2025, amounting to 1.7 million euros. The credit quality of consumer loans continues to improve, that of home loans remains very high and that of business loans stable.

The Group’s total deposit portfolio grew by 185 million euros (+6%) quarter on quarter and by 543 million euros (+21%) year on year, reaching 3.2 billion euros. The term deposit portfolio increased by 134 million euros (+9%) to 1.6 billion euros, while the savings deposit portfolio grew by 20 million euros (+1%) to 1.5 billion euros. The volume of current accounts also continued to grow rapidly, reaching 69 million euros by quarter end, representing quarterly growth of 71%. Growth in current account volumes was supported by the expansion of the everyday banking product offering. From the second quarter onwards, current account services became available not only to Estonian business customers but also to companies in Latvia and Lithuania, while debit cards are now offered to retail customers in all three Baltic countries.

Interest income for the second quarter totalled 52 million euros, increasing by 6.8 million euros (+15%) year on year. Interest expense amounted to 21 million euros, increasing by 1.5 million euros (+8%) compared to the same period last year. As a result, Bigbank’s net interest income rose by 5.3 million euros (+20%) year on year to 31 million euros.

The value of the Group’s investment property portfolio decreased by 0.9 million euros over the quarter to 81 million euros. The decrease was primarily attributable to a limited amount of asset disposals. No revaluation of investment property was carried out during the second quarter, and rental cash flows from both commercial properties and agricultural land remained stable.

Strong business growth continues to be supported by a growing and highly capable team. During the second quarter, the number of employees increased by 33 (+5%) to 712, while year on year headcount grew by 93 (+15%). Key drivers behind the increase were the launch of everyday banking products and the continued commitment to providing high-quality customer service in the context of expanding loan and deposit portfolios.
